Louise was at home today for a visit. She will come back again tomorrow for Mother’s Day. Bill and I went to see her and she seemed like she was doing fairly well. Not as much talk today about hating therapy, or the food, or her doctor. I think the change in scenery helps with … Continue reading Louise’s Day at Home
Louise Update
Louise was still very frustrated that she cannot seem to communicate today when Bill went to visit. She is blaming the doctor. She doesn't think they are doing anything to help her. She wants to go to "Ray's house." All of this is very normal behavior for a head injured person. It is an intensity … Continue reading Louise Update
Lesson 9 Look Back
Lesson 9 Look Back I know that most of the time I am looking ahead, always moving towards a goal or a milestone. Right now, I look to the end of the school year and summer break, as do the millions of children around our country. Two weeks is about as far out as I … Continue reading Lesson 9 Look Back
Frustration
I visited with Louise tonight. She was pretty tired when Peter and I got there. She was thrilled to see that he got is braces off. She talked about how handsome he looks. She was also pleased to show us her new room, and that led to another description of her old one. We talked … Continue reading Frustration
A Good Meeting
A good meeting. A good day. Ray and Bill met with the folks at the rehab center in charge of Louise’s care. They talked insurance as well as other things. Bill said when he got there Louise was down and she hugged him in tears. Then she got a private room and it has made … Continue reading A Good Meeting
Care Partner
Today Bill had a chance to visit with the Care Partner, a sort of case manager, and there will be another meeting tomorrow with Ray. They will have a chance to ask questions about the treatment, rooms, insurance and any other information they need. It should be a good meeting to get everyone on the … Continue reading Care Partner
Another visit
One more visit home for Louise before she starts therapy tomorrow. According to Ray she seems to be getting kinda down as she realizes how much she has lost. The inability to read has really thrown her for a loop. She is mad at the doctor and thinks he didn’t know what he was doing. … Continue reading Another visit
Home visit
Sorry for the late posting. It has been a long day. Good and bad news. Louise went home today for a visit. This is both good and bad because going home for a head injured patient is hard. They love it. They love being home and feeling safe. Louise loved seeing her dogs and her … Continue reading Home visit
The Move
Today was moving day. Just in the nick of time. Louise figured out how to turn off her bed alarm last night. She told Hannah her “secret” that she got up all through the night without “bothering the nurses.” In the rehab facility she is at she will have more freedom to move around, something … Continue reading The Move
Turning a Corner
Today Louise seems to have turned a corner. The doctor had told us that the most swelling happens about 72 hours post-surgery. It has been 74 hours now and she is remarkably better today. The agitation is much lower than yesterday. She is starting to be able to carry on a conversation somewhat. I talked … Continue reading Turning a Corner
