Tomorrow I will embark on a continued journey. Tomorrow I walk. I walk for myself. I walk for Louise. I walk for all those who are currently in treatment and those who have finished. I walk for those who have gone on before us. I walk because I can. There were days, during and after my treatment I didn’t think I would ever be able to walk any distance again. Chemo stole my breath from me. My energy was low on good days and non-existent on others. I was sick and not too sure how recovery would go.
Then I made a choice and a change. I determined to take my life back. Tomorrow I will begin a journey to walk 60 miles in three days. I will not stop walking after that. I will press on with determination. I will live. I will worship with my walking.
For those who cannot walk, I will carry you on my back. I will share your burden. I will lift you up. I will keep you in my heart and on my mind as I take each step. I will carry your worry. I will carry your fear of treatment. I will carry your heart for your children and grandchildren. I will carry the weight of this disease. I will carry the unknown results with me. I will carry your wishes and dreams for the future.
Then, while you are on my back, I will carry you to the cross. I will lay you there at his feet…the feet that walked. The feet that were pierced. I will bow before those feet to release the burden for you and for me. I will place it where it belongs…in the hands of the one who loves us with an everlasting love. Then after I have carried, and after I have walked, I will rest. I will sit and listen. I will hear his heartbeat for you and for me. I will wait. He will strengthen me. Then I will walk.
