God. Have. Mercy. We have lost our way. Contempt is our daily bread. Scorn our companion. Judgement flows from our mouths in a torrent. We have turned our faces away from each other. Away from you. We cannot see.
Our hearts are heavy with the weight of our blindness. Remove the scales from our eyes. To see each other from your eyes. To see ourselves as we are, not as we claim to be. To see you as you are. The God of fire. Holy. A protector of your children. All of the children made in your image.
Wipe our unclean lips with a coal. Silence our words. Instead of words, rend our hearts. Pour out your conviction. Make known your holiness. Shine your light to drive out the darkness from our hearts.
Let your justice roll down like a stream. In our streets, set things right. Make way for the oppressed. Protect the burdened. Send guardians to defend those who are troubled. Be a shield for those targeted unreasonably.
Only you know the hearts of men. Only you see the truth buried deep within each soul. Expose the truth. The vile and the abhorrent. The righteous and the upright. Bring all secrets to the light. All that we bury. The hidden away places we’d rather not be exposed.
We have lost our way. We have found only heartache and heaviness. Only you can lift the burden we carry. Please help us.
