I asked God what can be done in these current times. If I was born for such a time as this, what does that even mean? I felt him tell me I am his witness. Bearing witness means to give an account of what one has seen or experienced. I decided to make an ongoing list. Here is my first one.
I Bear Witness
- I bear witness to storm clouds. Physical and spiritual.
- I bear witness to the removal of compassion from our culture.
- I bear witness to vengeful thinking on every side.
- I bear witness to waterfalls.
- I bear witness to the wind, no matter which way it blows.
- I bear witness to ugly words spouted and typed to rip people apart.
- I bear witness to the tenderhearted who feel lost in this environment.
- I bear witness to the kindness and joy of children.
- I bear witness to the fear and hatred of adults.
- I bear witness to the blue sky and puffy clouds.
- I bear witness to people trying to figure out the right thing to do.
- I bear witness to the confusion of figuring it out.
- I bear witness to the birds who celebrate the sunrise every single morning.
- I bear witness to those who think they know everything.
- I bear witness to those who know they don’t.
- I bear witness to the power of the sea.
- I bear witness to the grains of sand.
- I bear witness to senior citizens walking alone.
- I bear witness to those who help them.
- I bear witness to those who work hard to provide for their families.
- I bear witness to the disabled who cannot always fight for themselves.
- I bear witness to the ones who care for their loved ones.
- I bear witness to the steadfast mountains.
- I bear witness to those who stand up for what they believe.
- I bear witness to those who stand against them.
- I bear witness to shouts for freedom for all.
- I bear witness to the tear gas that silences them.
- I bear witness to the sick ones.
- I bear witness to the hope that lives inside them.
- I bear witness to those called to the medical field.
- I bear witness to their hard work, their compassion and their frustration.
- I bear witness to the thunderstorms.
- I bear witness to the rain that waters the trees.
- I bear witness to the children, sitting in classrooms to learn.
- I bear witness to those who teach them.
- I bear witness to their sacrifice of sanity in order to impart knowledge which is not made up.
- I bear witness to the trees stretching their arms to the sky always.
- I bear witness to the way trees dance in the storms and in the breezy summer days.
- I bear witness to the church.
- I bear witness to its wrestling with itself.
- I bear witness to the infiltration of darkness within its doors.
- I bear witness to friendships that survive differing views.
- I bear witness to coffee shop conversations.
- I bear witness to concerts, shows, art, music, and museums.
- I bear witness to songs that bring joy or tears or both.
- I bear witness to history, the good and the bad.
- I bear witness to those who try to rewrite it.
- I bear witness to the fact that the real truth cannot be hidden, changed, or rewritten.
- I bear witness to those who feel unseen.
- I bear witness to those who feel abandoned.
- I bear witness to those who are broken.
- I bear witness to healing.
- I bear witness to a God who sees.
- I bear witness to a God who serves the unseen, abandoned, and broken.
- I bear witness to the creeks and rivers rolling to the sea.
- I bear witness to weaponized inequity.
- I bear witness to the damage it causes the marginalized.
- I bear witness to the fight it has always been.
- I bear witness to communities who stand together in unity despite the danger.
- I bear witness to the condition of hard heartedness.
- I bear witness to the refusal to see from another’s point of view.
- I bear witness to those who protect their tender hearts.
- I bear witness to turning off the news.
- I bear witness to those who just want peace.
- I bear witness to those who want to stir the pot.
- I bear witness to the clash that is caused by pot stirring.
- I bear witness to standing up for others who are not safe standing up for themselves.
- I bear witness to believing the best of people.
- I bear witness to believing the worst of people.
- I bear witness to the fact that people find what they are looking for. Best or worst.
- I bear witness to the beauty of humans who love…best and worst.
- I bear witness to the beauty of God who loves no matter what.
- I bear witness to the grace of God to continue to teach us to love like he does.
- I bear witness the fact that we are a long, long way from being able to do that.
